1916 The Giants ask for waivers on Chief Meyers, but Brooklyn and Boston both refuse the team's request. When the Robins owner Charles Ebbets and Braves owners Percy D. Haughton disagree on the status of the veteran catcher, a coin toss determines the 35 year-old will play for Brooklyn, where he will hit .235 in limited action over the next two season.
2009 The Rangers announce the signing of Andruw Jones, who is trying to restore his reputation after two horrendous seasons with the Dodgers, to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. The ten-time Gold Glove center fielder will try to join the crowded Texas outfield which includes David Murphy in left, Josh Hamilton in center, Nelson Cruz in right, along with Marlon Byrd, who is slotted to get substantial playing time in all three positions.
