Four Homers in One Game
"Somebody once asked me if I ever went up to the plate trying to hit a home run . I said, 'Sure, every time'." - MICKEY MANTLE, Yankee Hall of Fame slugger.

( 1 ) May 30, 1894 - After going 0-for-6 in the first game of a double-header, Beaneater Bob Lowe becomes the first major leauger to hit 4 homeruns in one game to help Boston beat Cincinnati and Elton 'Icebox' Chamberlain, 20-11.

( 2 ) July 12, 1896 - In a 9-8 defeat to the hometown Chicago Colts, Phillies' second baseman Ed Delahanty hits four home runs in one game. All of the future hall of Famer's (1940) round trippers are the inside-the-park variety.

( 3 ) June 3, 1932 - In Philadelphia, Lou Gehrig becomes the first player in the 2Oth century to hit four home runs in one game and barely misses a fifth as the Yankees hammer out a major league record for total bases with 50 against the A's.

( 4 ) July 10, 1936 - At Forbes Field, Chuck Klein hits four home runs in one game, including the tie breaker in the tenth, helping the Phillies defeat the Pirates, 9-6. The future Hall of Famer (1980) barely misses hitting an additional homer in the second when right fielder Paul Waner catches his drive against the wall.

( 5 ) July 18, 1948 - In an eleven inning 12-11 victory over the A's, White Sox outfielder Pat Seerey hits four home runs in one game. The Oklahoma native's last homer comes in the final inning of the game.

( 6 ) August 31, 1950 - In front of 14,226 fans at Ebbets Field, Gil Hodges becomes the fourth major leagueer in this century to hit four home runs in one game as Brooklyn routs the Braves, 19-3. The Dodger first baseman also ties the major league record for total bases with 17.

( 7 ) July 31, 1954 - At Ebbets Field, using a borrowed bat, Braves' first baseman Joe Adcock hits four home runs in one game as well as a double to sets a major league mark with 18 total bases in a 15-7 victory over the Dodgers.

( 8 ) June 10, 1959 - In Baltimore, Rocky Colavito becomes the sixth player to hit four home runs in one game helping the Indians defeat the O's, 11-8. The New York City native joins Lou Gehrig as the only ones to accomplishes the feat with 4 consecutive shots.

( 9 ) April 30, 1961 - At Milwaukee, Willie Mays slams four home runs in one game in a 14-4 Giant win over the Braves. The San Francisco slugger is left on deck in the top of the ninth when the third out is made.

(10 ) April 17, 1976 - At Wrigley Field, third baseman Mike Schmidt hits four home runs in one game as Phils beat the Cubs in ten innings,18-16; the Phillie slugger is the first National Leaguer to hit 4 homers in consecutive at-bats.

(11 ) July 6, 1986 -At Atlanta, first baseman Bob Horner becomes the 11th major leagueer to hit four home runs in one game. Three of the four home runs, however, are solo shots enabling the Expos to still beat the Braves, 11-8.

(12 ) September 7, 1993 - In the second game of a double header at Cincinnati, Mark Whitten hits four home runs in one game helping to tie two established RBI records. With 12 RBIs in second game, the Cardinal outfielder ties the single game mark set by Jim Bottomajor leagueey in 1924 and with his opening game run batted in, it ties him with the 21-year old record of Nate Colbert for the most RBIs (13) in a twin bill .

(13 ) May 2, 2003 - Just missing hitting his fifth homer in the 15-4 victory over the White Sox, Mariners outfielder Mike Cameron becomes the 13th major leaguer to hit four homers in one game. The first two dingers were followed by round trippers by second baseman Bret Boone making it the first time the same two teammates have hit back-to-back homers twice in one inning.

(14 ) May 23, 2002 - Becoming the 14th player in major league history and the second player this month, Shawn Green hits four homers in a game. The Dodger right fielder's 6-for-6 performance in Milwaukee's Miller Park, which also includes a single and double, breaks Joe Adcock's 1954 major league mark for total bases by one with a total of 19.

(15 ) September 25, 2003 - Carlos Delgado becomes the 15th player in big-league history and only the fifth American Leaguer player to hit four home runs in one game. The Blue Jays' first baseman's first homer was the 300th of his career and his barrage gives him 41 for the season.
